May Holds Mother’s Day And National Women’s Health Week

National Women’s Health Week is an observance led by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office on Women’s Health. The goal is to empower women to make their health a priority. The week also serves as a time to help women understand what steps they can take to improve their health. Your dentist can be an integral part of your check ups. Did you know that dentists usually diagnose high blood pressure and many other systemic diseases before a person is seen by a medical doctor? The 17th annual National Women’s Health Week kicks off on Mother’s Day, May 8, and is celebrated through May 14, 2016.
What steps can I take for better health? To improve your physical and mental health, you can:
- Visit a doctor or nurse for a well-woman visit (checkup) and preventive screenings.
- Visit your dentist for a full check up and hygiene cleaning
- Get active.
- Eat healthy.
- Pay attention to mental health, including getting enough sleep and managing stress.
- Avoid unhealthy behaviors, such as smoking, texting while driving, and not wearing a seatbelt or bicycle helmet.
- As women, we typically put our loved ones health before our own health and needs. This month, take the time to get examined by your dentist and seek ways to improve your diet and your health. “Make YOUR body a priority by starting with its foundation in the mouth” says Dr. Carly LeVine. So many things are preventable with early detection and there is no better time to get healthy.
To celebrate Mothers Day, we wanted to dedicate this issue to our practice’s most lovedPalisadean mother daughter hygiene team, Diane Brown and Laura Brown Norris. Diane has been a hygienest practicing in our office for over 35 years until she recently retired along with Dr. Francis at the end of 2015. Her daughter Laura, who was working part time in the office alongside her mother, has taken over her mothers legacy and joined the practice full time. Diane’s dynamic personality mixed with her love of dental hygiene made her our patients most beloved hygienest. Laura has some big shoes to fill but her patients are finding that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree and she is a carbon copy of her mom. As life would have it, Laura is expecting her first child in September so Diane will soon have her first grandchild. We are wishing everyone and especially both of you, a very HAPPY MOTHERS DAY.
